" I made a clean sweep of the drawing to leave only the main part: the drawing for what he(it) is, a pure and minimal track. As drawing, we cannot make simpler. Nevertheless this work really met the sensibility of people. "
Frédéric Dégranges
Frédéric Dégranges was born in France in 1966. He spent the first years of his life in Tunisia, then his family settled down in Orléans.
It is by the comic that very young he discovered the drawing, mainly through the works of Hergé and Franquin, then later Moebius. The clear line is his first school. In 1987, Frédéric Dégranges brings in to the Regional School of Fine arts of Angoulême and studies the Comic.
These years of learning are the opportunity for him to discover and appreciate the works of numerous artists such Paul Klee, Alberto Giacometti, Jackson Pollock, Rembrandt, Henri Moore, Egon Schiele …
The drawing appeared to him in the time as a way to see : he worked his sketches a little in the style of sténogrammes (without looking at the sheet on which he traces), trying to transcribe the reality of his vision. From 1990, Frédéric Dégranges worked for cartoon films as storyboardeur for numerous television series.
Little by little his personal concerns regarding the drawing went away from the practice due to his profession. Before any a rejection of the Image, such as it appears nowadays, object-profit, standardized presentation liable for the expression of the ideas and the forms.
The American minimalist experimental music (works from de La Monte Young, Tony Conrad, Charlemagne Palestine, and especially Steve Reich and Eliane Radigue) then played for him an important rule : he found there the energy for a new creativity.
In 2009, he draws his first "wefts": repetitive abstract minimal drawing, just the lines, which testify of a sensitive exchange with a surface, temporal writings of a passage. Visual music of time, these lines, by being added to others, as an accumulation of thousand moments, creates bright and optical vibratory surfaces, revealing an imagination bound and dedicated most simply possible for the visual perception.
This work opened him to a different and sensitive practice of the drawing which it works at the moment, drawing writing, drawing textures, to draw, to shape, to model the subject schedules to give and to See.
