Vertical horizon
“To master the color and the transparency in the mass of the glass, many people dreamed about it, few succeeded. Etienne Leperlier gives to the molten glass a new dimension, as much by the size as the creative intensity. (…) In this theater of the material, Etienne Leperlier knows that in every stage there is risk, the slowness of the process adding to the tension. In the end, his sculptures, which we can consider as monumental with regard to the technical complexity, throw themselves on the light as infants eager for their first steps. The artist recognizes his initial project, imagined well before in the opacity of the clay or the polystyrene. Everything takes place in the projection of an ideal. Etienne Leperlier knows that it is necessary to him to wait one month near the oven irreparably closed to see appearing its artistic vocabulary of a gangue of plaster”.
Thierry de Beaumont
Born in Evreux in 1952
At the same time as studying sociology and a degree in ethnology, Etienne Leperlier initiated himself to the technique of pâte de verre with his brother Antoine in the studio of their grandfather François Décorchemont (1881-1971). Born of a family of sculptors, F.Décorchemont develops an original technique of pâte de verre, a synthesis of different artistic disciplines, such as sculpture, bronze, lost wax, ceramics and glass. In 1980, Etienne Leperlier makes the decision to devote himself essentially to this activity.
He died on 2014.
